Bedbugs are small insects that often live on furniture or bedding. Their bites can be itchy, but do not usually cause other health problems.
Bedbugs hide in many places, including on bed frames, mattresses, clothing, furniture, behind sockets, loose wallpaper and pictures. They can come into you home many ways so of the most common are from holidays, being in an affected property or second hand furniture.
Signs of Bedbugs:
- bites - often on skin exposed while sleeping, like the face, neck, arms and legs
- spots of blood on your bedding - from the bites or from squashing a bedbug
- small brown dots on bedding or furniture (bedbug droppings)
- seeing them at night
Pre-treatment checklist:
- wash affected bedding and clothing on as hot as wash as possible and the tumble dry on a hot setting for at least 30 mins.
- put anything that can't be washed at high temperature or tumble dried place it in a plastic bag and put it in the freezer for 3 or 4 days.
- clean and vacuum around the affected areas.
- remove clutter from under the bed, clear out cupboards where there is evidence of bedbugs, pick up items from the floor so the area is ready to be sprayed.
